Halloween in the Village!!

C3, Carlsbad Causes for Community, is holding its annual Halloween In The Village Saturday, October 29 at C3 headquarters, Carlsbad Village Yoga Co-op. This fun-filled event begins at 2:00 pm at the Carlsbad Village Yoga Co-op and continues with trick-or-treating throughout The Carlsbad Village until 6:00 pm. It is a free community event for families and kids of all ages.

Halloween In The Village kicks off with the C3 Fun Zone where guests will be greeted with live music by The Elements, a teenage rock band, and enjoy a jump house, face painting, hula-hoops, and cotton candy. Guests will be given a trick-or-treat bag and a map that highlights all of the generous merchants that will be giving out treats.

To add to the festivities, there will be a costume contest for the cutest, funniest and scariest costume. Trick-or-treaters should check-in at 2:15 pm to enter the contest, and winners will be selected at 3:00 pm.

“We are so proud to be hosting the fourth annual Halloween In The Village!,” said Deb Ferraro, C3 Founder. “It’s really wonderful how many businesses in The Carlsbad Village unite as a community to help our community!”

The event is made possible in large part by the kindness of the sponsors: presenting sponsor, Homelife Village Realtors, and community sponsors: Brubaker and Associates, Carlsbad Village Yoga Co-op, and Carlsbad Counseling Center.

Once a city-funded event, Halloween In The Village is now led by C3, a non-profit consisting of local businesses, non-profits and Carlsbad residents who collaborate to raise money for various community causes by putting on programs and events around The Carlsbad Village.

Next month, C3 will host its C3 Village-wide Food Drive to benefit Got Your Back San Diego. C3 will be collecting peanut butter, macaroni and cheese, cans of tuna, and other easy to prepare items for hungry kids in North County.

For more information on Halloween In The Village, visit carlsbadcauses.org, or contact Deb Ferraro at carlsbadcauses@gmail.com or (760) 893-9251. C3 is located at 2801-B Roosevelt Street, Carlsbad, CA, inside the Carlsbad Village Yoga Co-op.

‘Tis the Season for Giving

It has been a successful holiday season of giving for Carlsbad Causes for Community thanks to this amazing community!
It is such a delightful experience to witness all the LOVE this wonderful City of Carlsbad shares!

In November we hosted our annual Village Community Food Drive. It was coordinated THANKS to the collaborative community efforts of the following:
28 C3 business partners (placed bins at their locations to collect food and toiletries)
The Boys & Girls Clubs (arranged for the Armory Club to help)
The Armory Club consisting of Carlsbad High School volunteers (labeled the bins with maps and items being collected)
Karlsbad Realty (sponsored the printing and design of maps)
YOU (donated food items and toiletries for our community)
7U Carlsbad Stingers competitive youth baseball team and their families (collected the bins from the 28 businesses)
The Sand Gnats Carlsbad Youth Baseball Team and their families (delivered the contents of the bins to Got Your Back San Diego)
Got Your Back San Diego helps to fight childhood hunger and distributed the food collected to homeless and hungry children.
InterFaith Community Services empowers people in need and delivered the toiletries collected to help improve lives.

Reach Out for Thanks

Carlsbad Causes for Community (C3) is excited to announce a pilot program called Reach out for THANKS which offers FREE CHAIR YOGA for the month of January on Wednesdays at 1:30 pm and Saturdays at 1:30 pm to be held at the Carlsbad Village Yoga Co-op in downtown Carlsbad.  This program was inspired by an event called Friends Helping Friends which was grant-funded by the Carlsbad Charitable Foundation and involved non-profits collaborating with Kids for Peace to perform service projects for the community.  The Reach Out for THANKS service project involves a collaboration of Kids for Peace, C3, and Meals on Wheels.

Chair-YogaHundreds of ‘Gratitude Bookmarks’ offering this gratitude gift of yoga were colored and laminated by the kids and then distributed to the hundreds of senior volunteers who deliver food for Meals on Wheels.  C3 is a 501 c3 non-profit that collaborates as a community to implement programs and events for the community.  The Reach Out for THANKS program is open to not only senior volunteers for Meals on Wheels, but to anyone who would benefit from a little stretching and reaching out to experience come community love.  If this pilot program serves to be successful and utilized by the elderly population of Carlsbad, then C3 will seek donations to enable the continued existence of Reach Out for THANKS.  C3 is holding a Winter Formal Ball and Live Auction fundraiser on January 30, 2015 to raise money for another program that funds free yoga to the Boys & Girls Club, Village Branch to kids ages 6 through 13 and teens.  For more information or to make a donation to C3, visit www.CarlsbadCauses.org.

C3 Grant Recipients: Boys and Girls Clubs of Carlsbad (Kids Yoga)

In January 2014 Carlsbad Causes for Community hosted a Fairy Tale Ball Fundraiser.
With such wonderful support and numerous donations during that event, we were able to raise enough money to sponsor C3’s first grant:

Three Months of Kids Yoga granted to Boys Girls ClubLogoWithLocal2

During the last three months (March-May), the Boys and Girls Clubs of Carlsbad rounded up groups of various kids and escorted them to our yoga co-op every Wednesday afternoon for a 60 minute yoga session lead by Raechal Levin.

Children ages 6-12 years of age experienced the benefits of yoga through breathing, stretching and concentration.  Learning basic poses like Downward Facing Dog (Adho Mukha Svanasana), Cobra (Bhujangasana), and Warrior I (Virabhadrasana I) encourages confidence in physical and mental self.

Carlsbad Village Yoga Co-op offers kids yoga for all ages: Mommy & Me (6 weeks-2 years), Little Yogis Kids Yoga (Ages 2-6), and Kids Yoga (Ages 6-12).  Please refer to our website www.carlsbadvillageyoga.com for specific class dates and times!

Gentle yoga C3 class

The first Causes for Community Carlsbad (C3), held on Friday November 29, raised over $1500 (and counting!). Over 30 people attended the evening gentle yoga class, followed by snacks and sangria, at Carlsbad Village Yoga and Fitness studio. Raffle prizes and silent auction gifts were donated by businesses in the community, including Hennessey’s, Mas Fina Cantina, Ocean Sky Beads, Lost Abbey, The Danish Bakery, The Running Center, Floating Yogis, Latitude 33˚, Ocean Blo Salon and The Coolest Shoes in California.

The c3 event was held to help support Nesha Cameron in her battle against stage 3 breast cancer. Nesha has been undergoing chemotherapy for the past year and is looking to complement her treatment with naturopathic medicine which will help make the chemotherapy more effective, and reduce the side effects of what is a rather harsh treatment. The treatment costs $5,000 and all money donated will go directly to Nesha to support her treatment. Donations are still being accepted online here or at Carlsbad Village Yoga and Fitness studio.

The silent auction will continue until Friday December 7, so you still have a chance to bid on Brooks running shoes, Lost Abbey beer and a Hennessey’s gift card, jewelry from Ocean Sky Beads, and a yoga mat from Lululemon.

Causes for Community Carlsbad events will continue to be held in the months with a fifth Friday. The next C3 event will be held on Friday March 29, 2013. Stay tuned for details!
