In January 2014 Carlsbad Causes for Community hosted a Fairy Tale Ball Fundraiser.
With such wonderful support and numerous donations during that event, we were able to raise enough money to sponsor C3’s first grant:
Three Months of Kids Yoga granted to
During the last three months (March-May), the Boys and Girls Clubs of Carlsbad rounded up groups of various kids and escorted them to our yoga co-op every Wednesday afternoon for a 60 minute yoga session lead by Raechal Levin.
Children ages 6-12 years of age experienced the benefits of yoga through breathing, stretching and concentration. Learning basic poses like Downward Facing Dog (Adho Mukha Svanasana), Cobra (Bhujangasana), and Warrior I (Virabhadrasana I) encourages confidence in physical and mental self.
Carlsbad Village Yoga Co-op offers kids yoga for all ages: Mommy & Me (6 weeks-2 years), Little Yogis Kids Yoga (Ages 2-6), and Kids Yoga (Ages 6-12). Please refer to our website www.carlsbadvillageyoga.com for specific class dates and times!
Carlsbad Village Yoga and Fitness is a co-op yoga studio that embraces the concept of community in more ways than one. We believe that the studio should not only house opportunities to practice yoga, but also provide a gathering space for the community to interact and participate. We especially love incorporating opportunities for children to learn, understand, and practice yoga.
As an extension of our kids and family yoga classes, we have initiated several outreach programs and partnered with various community youth groups and schools to further encourage children to discover the benefits of yoga.
For our first initiative we have teamed with Jefferson Elementary School and their MOTION Scholarship Program. MOTION is a holistic approach to improving fitness, focus and behavior. Each day starts with students engaging in fitness based activities which elevate heart rate, fitness levels, increase strength, and produce positive reactions in the brain that allow for them to be more calm and therefore more productive in the academic setting. We have provided the school with special gift certificates for one month FREE kids yoga classes to be given monthly to three outstanding students that exhibit exceptional fitness behaviors.
Our second partnership is with the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation‘s Kids Klub. The Foundation serves as an advocate for the Lagoon and strives to preserve its natural healthy ecosystem and habitat including wildlife and marine life, while at the same time balancing the need for public access, trails and recreational opportunities. Their Kids Klub (ages 4-12) gives children access to a variety of educational programs and activities. We have offered special gift certificates for two kids and/or family yoga classes for the price of one to be distributed during the Foundation’s Kid Klub events or meetings.
Our third outreach endeavor is to hopefully inspire the teenagers in our community to come experience the benefits of yoga. High school is undeniably a stressful time in most young people’s lives. Battling the physical and social elements of their daily routines can leave teenagers feeling stressed, exhausted, and overwhelmed Our goal is to provide a more productive way to manage stress by offering high school students a discount of $10 per class with a valid student ID.
Finally, with our Yoga Angel Program we have empowered members of the community to sponsor monthly classes for a child who would like to learn yoga but does not have the means to do so. If you are interested in becoming an Yoga Angel, please contact Deb Ferraro at Deb@acewellnessnow.com.
If you would like more information about any of these programs, please visit our website www.carlsbadvillageyoga.com or email Deb Ferraro at Deb@acewellnessnow.com.
What’s your daily schedule look like during the week?? Wake-up, breakfast, get the kids to school, work, pick up kids from school, take kids to ballet or soccer practice, home, dinner, laundry, bed….the daily grind is an exhausting one. Not to mention, we probably have our iPhones glued to our palms 70% of the day. In this hi-tech world, we rely heavily on our portable electronic devices to provide us entertainment, information, and schedule our overly-full days.
Practicing yoga not only helps adults cope with the daily stressors of our hectic lives, but can also be extremely beneficial for children. Yoga at an early age is valuable to both physical and mental development in children. It enhances flexibility, strength, and coordination as well as assists concentration and provides a sense of calm in this busy world we live in. It is important to provide children with the necessary tools to be comfortable with silence and stillness, manage stress, and to appreciate our connection to the natural world.
If you are not sure how to introduce your kids to yoga, we have many opportunities to help you guide you and your children.
First, if you are new to yoga and are expecting, we offer a couple Gentle yoga classes (prenatal approved) as well as slow Restorative/Yin classes:
