Reach Out for Thanks


Carlsbad Causes for Community (C3) is excited to announce a pilot program called Reach out for THANKS which offers FREE CHAIR YOGA for the month of January on Wednesdays at 1:30 pm and Saturdays at 1:30 pm to be held at the Carlsbad Village Yoga Co-op in downtown Carlsbad.  This program was inspired by an event called Friends Helping Friends which was grant-funded by the Carlsbad Charitable Foundation and involved non-profits collaborating with Kids for Peace to perform service projects for the community.  The Reach Out for THANKS service project involves a collaboration of Kids for Peace, C3, and Meals on Wheels.

Chair-YogaHundreds of ‘Gratitude Bookmarks’ offering this gratitude gift of yoga were colored and laminated by the kids and then distributed to the hundreds of senior volunteers who deliver food for Meals on Wheels.  C3 is a 501 c3 non-profit that collaborates as a community to implement programs and events for the community.  The Reach Out for THANKS program is open to not only senior volunteers for Meals on Wheels, but to anyone who would benefit from a little stretching and reaching out to experience come community love.  If this pilot program serves to be successful and utilized by the elderly population of Carlsbad, then C3 will seek donations to enable the continued existence of Reach Out for THANKS.  C3 is holding a Winter Formal Ball and Live Auction fundraiser on January 30, 2015 to raise money for another program that funds free yoga to the Boys & Girls Club, Village Branch to kids ages 6 through 13 and teens.  For more information or to make a donation to C3, visit

     If you’re one of those people who can barely squeeze a yoga or workout session into your busy schedule, then we have the PERFECT series of classes for you! Target specific training areas FAST with our intensive 30 minute BLAST classes!! Last month we introduced Booty Blasting Barre, a 30 minute barre workout focusing on the glutes and thighs.  We liked the idea of these “BLAST” classes so much that we decided to offer you more during the month of August!

Conditioning: From core work to strength training to low-impact cardio intervals, these workouts are comprehensive and will give you a physical and mental edge.  You can expect a vigorous, full body workout in 30 minutes!

This class is great introduction to yoga, or a perfect opportunity to refine your posture for the more seasoned practitioners.  All in 30 minutes, you will warm, lengthen, and relax!

A fantastically short session of intense glutes and legs toning using body weight, and the barre to blast that booty!


(Saturdays @ 10:30am)

This fast-paced booty shaping blast class consists of a circuit of stations including various free weight exercises, training equipment, and cardio exercises to tone the body by building muscles and burning fat!


 (Saturdays @ 11:15am)

This awesome playful class will burn calories and tighten your core, while teaching you to have a little bit of fun with hoops!  This class integrates core muscles through some yoga stretching, intense core-work, and hula hoop fun!

The Benefits of Yoga

ImageMost people know that yoga increases balance and flexibility. But there are plenty of other benefits to practicing yoga on a regular basis.

Some of the major benefits of yoga include:

  • helping reduce anxiety, increase body awareness and even speed the release of hormones that cause arousal. All of that translates to a boost in libido.
  • Mental endurance and physical stamina are tested through holding postures for extended breaths.
  • Arm and shoulder strength is multiplied as you use your own body weight for resistance.
  • Lats and other back muscles begin to support the spine better than before.
  • Abdominals and obliques are refined and sharpened through building core muscles.
  • Poor and average posture begins to correct itself over time.
  • Hip flexors are stretched and rebuilt.
  • Glutes, quads, hamstrings, and calves are tightened and lengthened where they need to be.

Yoga can also help people suffering from insomnia, reduces stress, and creates a better sense of well-being.

All things new

It’s a new year, and what better way to start the new year than by introducing new classes, new partners, new memberships and new workshops?

zumba-logoZUMBA fitness and, Hatha yoga, yoga therapy classes will begin in February. ZUMBA combines Latin dance moves in a fun, aerobic focused workout. Classes will be on Sunday evenings at 6 pm.

Shazia Gogia, who recently started teaching yin and yang classes on Saturday morning, will also be leading Hatha yoga and yoga therapy classes. Hatha yoga combines breathing, meditation and postures with the use of props and walls. Open to all levels, Hatha yoga classes will be held Mondays at 6 pm. Yoga therapy is perfect for those who want to do yoga but have felt inhibited by injury or pain. Taught in a safe and nurturing environment, this class addresses common issues like lower back pain, tight hips, sciatica, shoulder pain, stiffness in body, knee issues etc. Yoga therapy will be held on Tuesdays at 10 am.

Have you ever wanted to learn to bead and make your own beautiful jewelry? The first workshop of February will take place on Sunday February 3rd at 12 pm. Join us for a beading class across the street at Ocean Sky Beads! The workshop is $30, and we’ll be meeting at the yoga studio to enjoy a Veggie Protein Shake before heading across the Latitude-33-Brewing-Logostreet.

And don’t forget the first Fun Friday event of February will be a black light yoga flow class followed by sangria and snacks from the Danish Bakery, as well as a craft beer tasting from our new partner Latitude 33. The event is on Friday February 1st, and starts at 7.30 pm.

Defend yourself

In the USA 1 in 4 women are sexually assaulted. So Carlsbad Village Yoga and Fitness wants to help women of all ages learn to fight back. We’re offering a free one hour self defense seminar,  which will teach an easy combination of moves to use in any situation and against an attacker of any size. Empower yourself with street fighting, get away moves, and warning signs.

Leah Oviedo will teach the workshop. Leah is a certified self defense instructor in San Diego.  Her motto is “Empower yourself” because she believes that we all have the power and strength to make our  lives what we want. Her background includes work in the areas of foster and homeless youth, domestic violence, sexual assault and environmental protection.

Embrace your inner goddess


Want to tone your core but not interested in Pilates? Belly Dancing may just be the answer! Discover the power of this ancient art form and connect with your inner goddess in our 8-week belly dancing course. Belly Dancing strengthens and tones the whole body, with a unique focus on the core, trunk and pelvic muscles, and it is excellent for increasing flexibility, joint strength and muscle density.

Classes are led by Megan Burnett, who has been performing belly dance across the US for the past 15 years (and she also teaches Rise and Flow Yoga on Thursday mornings).

The next Belly dancing course begins on Thursday January 3rd at 7:30 pm. Classes are ongoing with new students accepted every 8-10 weeks. For more information and to register, go to

Keeping your new year’s resolution

If you are one of the many people out there who have resolved to get fit in the new year, why not let us help?
